This is my first attempt of crafting a bird out of felt, wire and fimo clay. It's the same method of production I used in the Eden River Brew Co. project from Yr3, S1. As you can see, I used a bright red colour for the birds breast, which is a little unrealistic but think it worked pretty well. When I was sculpting the head, I didn't really pay as much attention to reference images as I should have to make a good likeness to a robin. The eyes were too far apart and beak too long and narrow. Before painting it with acrylic, it resembled a hummingbird/kingfisher rather than a robin. Nevertheless, I'm pleased with how it turned out.
Here is my second attempt! As you can tell, I paid much more attention to the image references for this one. I made it's shape a lot rounder, head smaller, colour choices for the breast is more accurate. The eyes and beak were altered this time over, I brought the eyes closer to the front of the face and the beak thicker and shorter. I also sourced some up close images of robins to closely replicate the mark-making of the feathers around its eyes and head. Overall, I'm pleased with the progress I've made but I do appreciate my first attempt for different reasons. For this reason, I'll be keeping the first attempt for myself, and selling my second. I will later be creating a nest for the robin as part of the commission.
